On the 10th of September my class and a few others went to El Rancho camp. In the morning our classes went into the hall my teacher called out the roll. Afterwards, me and my two friends Nicky and Drew went outside. We got to leave early because my mum and Jesse were taking us. The car ride was nice but loud before hand I had brought lollies and we all got a sugar rush. When we arrived at El Rancho we were the only ones there. After we got out of the car I saw a goat but as soon as I touched it he attacked me so I just ran over to the tramp instead. After a few minutes all of the kids arrived in cars and buses so we climbed up the hill and sat down. The lady told us some safety rules and split us up into groups. Luckily, Nicky and Drew were in mine.
Our first activity was kayaking I was really excited about this one and it was as good as expected. We put on life jackets and picked a kayak. I was pushed into the water and I started paddling. After everyone was in we went under the bridge to the big part of the water. After a while of free paddling the lady who was in charge told us to get into a line we all assembled a line and held onto each others kayaks. Then we were told to stand up and say our names and a animal starting with the same letter. I started to think of a animal starting with a N. I couldn't say Narwhal because a girl named Nakia had already said it so in panic I said Nemo fish. After we did that everyone started to get out. I went to get changed and we headed over to our next activity.
We walked over to the Archery shed and sat down. The men told us how to shoot a arrow. Everyone were really good some people even hit the target first try. When It was my turn I was pretty nervous but I was actually kinda good after a few turns I started hitting red (the one by bulls eye.)
Then we did a escape the room i really thought this would be good but it kinda sucked I don't really have anything to say so yeah we had to find clues and stuff.
Overall it was a good day.

Salva Dut Essay
In the Novel A Long Walk To Water written by Linda Sue Park, a young 11 year old boy named Salva Dut showed that he was Brave, Strong and kind. He displayed all of these qualities after his village of Lunarik was attacked, and he had to flee in to the forest, leaving his old life behind.
At the beginning of the novel Salva was incredibly sad and alone. He had been left alone by his school and a old lady. He was deserted, left with nothing. After awhile another group came. They were his tribe but they still didn't accept him. Then a lady stood up and reminded them Salva was Dinka to. But they still tried to exclude him saying he slow them down. He had walked for so long and he was starving and Dehydrated. He had made a friend named Mariel. He also found his Uncle Jewiir who had been off in the war. After awhile his Uncle was the leader of the group and Salva was well feed but it was to good to last well they were sleeping his friend Mariel was eaten by a lion. Salva carried on the walk thinking about Mariel. As they walked on further Salva wanted to give up but his uncle told him "You just have to make it to that rock." After a few days of walking they found a forest. As the group settled down the rebels attacked making everyone get on there knees. They took Salvas uncle and his gun and shot him through the head.
After his uncles death Salva was excluded from the group once again. As the walk to Ethiopia continued the adults started to complain about how Salva would slow them down. Finally, after months of being tired and mistreated he made it to the refuge camp. As crowds of people pushed each other in he thought he saw his mother. He shoved every one out the way if he didn't find her now he would never find her again. After a few minutes of pushing and shoving he realised that what his uncle had told him "Almost no one survived" was just a better way to say his family was dead. Salva stood there in silence. Six years Salva had spent in that camp the shortage of food was drastic. As if life wasent hard enough one day it got a whole lot worse. Rebels, driving in on big trucks chasing them out. Salva heard someone say that they were chasing them to the river. There were crocodiles in the river. As Salva stumbled into the river he felt a arm wrap around his neck he was pulled under by the currents he felt the arms let go. He looked back the young boy that was clinging on had bullet in his neck. Salva got to the other side and ran. Some how Salva had became the leader of 1500 kids. They looked up to him and after months of walking he managed to get 1000 kids to another camp. 10 years Salva had lived in this camp and this one was worse then the last. But it all got better when Michel came. Michel helped Salva speak English and he also helped him get to New York.
As Salva looked down from the aeroplane window he saw all the cars and all the roads. When he got of the plane it was freezing. He walked forward and said hello to his new family. There were two parents and two kids. When he got home he was given a huge pile of clothes. He had a good life with his new family but one night he received a email. The email said that Salvas father was sick. he couldn't believe it his dad was alive. Salva headed to Sudan straight away. When he found his dad he was overwhelmed with happiness and to make it better his dad told him his mum his two sisters and one of his three brothers was alive. He wanted to go see them right away but the war was still going.
Salva waited till the war was over and well it was still going he went to all the schools and talked to them about his family and how there is almost no clean water in South Sudan. So when the war was over Salva gave water to everyone in South Sudan including his enemy the Nuer tribe.
This the essay I wrote based on a character named Salva Dut.
